Genealogical Queries – Acts

Basis

The Genealogical Queries program is an application of the Coherence-Based Genealogical Method (CBGM). The present version relies on the database from which the edition of Acts in the Editio Critica Maior of the New Testament derives. The application makes it possible to frame queries about Greek manuscripts cited in the apparatus of this edition:

Novum Testamentum Graecum. Editio Critica Maior

Vol. III Acts of the Apostles, ed. Holger Strutwolf, Georg Gäbel, Annette Hüffmeier, Gerd Mink, and Klaus Wachtel.

About Genealogical Queries – Acts

One important feature of the CBGM is its potential to improve results through an iterative procedure. First, local stemmata of the variants are constructed taking into account pregenealogical coherence (phase 1). Based on this newly derived external criterion, the local stemmata are put to the test and revised.

The printed volume represents the result of the third iteration through the entire material (phase 3). The database behind phase 3, however, reflects the state of work that resulted from phase 2. So the user can review how we worked on the text and the local stemmata in phase 3, which forms the basis of the printed edition. The state of work reached at the end of phase 3, consequently, is the basis for phase 4 which will be finalized, at the latest, when a second edition of ECM Acts is due. As a special service we produced the database for phase 4 to give users the opportunity to include the results of phase 3 in assessing the work of the editors.

Hence, what we present in "Genealogical Queries" is still a work in progress.

Please note that in the course of or our work the ECM apparatus was revised. Corrections were carried out, variation units split or merged. Therefore the figures of passages covered by witnesses, their agreements and differences change from phase 1 to phase 4.
